We love our clean design and so do our readers. We hope you do too. We don’t do banner ads, link exchanges, and while we love getting free stuff, our opinions can’t be bought. We provide you with an opportunity to be heard by a loyal readership of travelers, parents, and general badasses who enjoy going on adventures big and small. We produce content in a fresh, voice-driven narrative with honest reviews of our experiences. Our readers trust our opinions and come to our blog, not to glance through excerpts, but to read the entire post on the front page. We read long, we often write long, and fortunately for us (and for you), our readers love us just the way we are. If you’d like us to consider writing something about a product or service you represent, we’d love to hear from you.
Why Us?
As working journalists and writers, we’ve contributed travel content to publications including Modern Bride, Destination Weddings and Honeymoons, Rave, American Way and other major media. Sona has contributed to the New York Times, People, TheDailyBeast.com, Cosmopolitan and other major media, and blogged for MSN.com, iVillage.com, CafeMom.com, and the new site Mom.Me. We both hold MFAs in creative writing, we take our craft seriously, and love to travel. We’re writers who travel, not the other way around. (Sona’s media clips| Navdeep’s media clips). Navdeep spent his childhood all over Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and we now call New York City “home.” With more than a decade’s worth of experience in major media, we bring hard earned editorial skills to IshqInABackpack.
Shortly after we were married in Las Vegas (just keeping it classy), we went for a short cooking honeymoon in Mexico, but that wasn’t enough. IshqInABackpack.com was formed in 2007 when we quit their jobs to go on a six month honeymoon backpacking adventure through India. We had such an amazing time that we didn’t want the honeymoon to end. When our daughter, Kavya, was born, we were in the middle of planning a trip island-hopping through Greece, and had to postpone that trip. Apparently riding on the back of a donkey up and down stairs in a city built on an active volcano isn’t good when you’re pregnant. Already an adventurous traveler, Kavya has strolled across the Brooklyn Bridge to New York’s biggest book festival, explored San Diego and San Francisco by foot, and flown over active volcanoes in a helicopter on Hawaii’s Big Island. And she just turned three in February. Which means now we have to pay (full-price, no less) for her plane tickets. This is where you come in . . . . .
